What to expect at each prenatal visit

The standard cadence, what's checked each time, and how to prep two useful questions.

First-trimester visits are usually every 4 weeks, second-trimester every 4, third-trimester every 2–4 tapering to weekly in the last month. This cadence is the standard low-risk schedule — higher-risk pregnancies may involve additional monitoring. Every visit checks blood pressure, weight, urine (for protein and glucose), and fetal heart rate. Specific milestone visits add ultrasounds, bloodwork, and screening tests — 20-week anatomy scan, 24–28 week glucose test, group B strep swab at 36 weeks. Come with 2–3 questions written down. Sleep-deprived, foggy, or nervous brains forget the questions the moment you sit down. Pediatric visits later run the same way — bring notes.
