Cluster feeding and growth spurts

The late-day cluster feeds and 3-week, 6-week, and 3-month spurts — all normal.

Cluster feeding — nursing or taking bottles every 30–60 minutes for a stretch, often in the late afternoon or evening — is developmentally normal, not a sign of low supply. Baby is dosing up on calories for the coming night stretch and, in breastfed babies, signaling your body to produce more milk. Growth spurts commonly hit around 2–3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months. Expect 2–3 days of extra feeding, extra fussiness, and shorter sleep. Feed to demand — resist supplementing without medical need if you're breastfeeding, since the extra suckling is exactly what upregulates supply. Set up a comfortable feeding station with water, snacks, and a phone charger within reach so the cluster feels less like a marathon. Trade off with a partner for burping and diapering between feeds to protect your energy.
