Baby-wearing basics
Picking the right carrier and safe positions…
Follow TICKS: Tight enough to hold baby snug against you, In view at all times, Close enough to kiss the top of the head, Keep chin off chest (a two-finger gap under the chin), Supported back in a natural curve.
A stretchy wrap (soft jersey fabric wound and tied) works well for newborns — it hugs the baby to your chest and distributes weight comfortably. A structured buckle carrier is easier once your baby has strong head control, usually around 3–4 months.
Avoid front-facing carriers for the first six months — they leave baby's spine unsupported and can be overstimulating. When baby-wearing, dress them in one fewer layer than you're wearing since your body heat adds warmth.
