Parent Care
Asking for and accepting help
Line up three tiers of support before delivery, and say yes to specific offers without guilt.
The nuclear-family model asks two people to do what took a village for most of human history. Asking for help isn't weakness — it's realistic math.
Line up three tiers before delivery. Tier 1: logistics — someone for meals, older-kid pickup, errands. Tier 2: emotional support — a friend or two you can text at 3am. Tier 3: professionals — a lactation consultant, postpartum doula, therapist. Ask early; the good ones fill up.
Say yes to specific offers. "Can I bring dinner Thursday?" — yes. "Let me hold the baby while you shower." — yes. Vague offers are hard to accept, but specific ones are gifts. A shared meal-train link or a simple list on the fridge makes it easy for others to plug in.
